Creating a dream children’s room is a pleasure for every parent. Choosing the right furniture, colors, or lighting is quite a challenge, but that’s not all. Sooner or later we’ll notice that in a room that was supposed to be perfect, something is definitely missing. So how do you arrange a small space so that, in addition to visual appeal, it’s equally functional? We invite you to read this article!
Designing a child’s room - start with the wall color
If you’re working with a small space, start the interior design by choosing the right color. A small room can be visually enlarged with a light color palette. These add lightness and diffuse light in the room very well. You can go with white walls and choose accessories in pastel colors. An attractive solution in a children’s room is also to apply a self-adhesive photo wallpaper with an interesting colorful pattern or stickers on one wall. If you already know what wall color will be suitable, now it’s time to think about lighting.
What lighting should you choose for a small children’s room?
Do you want your child’s room to feel cozy yet functional? Opt for multi-source lighting. Overhead lighting will evenly illuminate the whole room, while side lights, which can be chosen in various shapes and colors, will become not only an amazing decoration but will also add extra light. Remember to match the lighting to the children’s age, too. A toddler’s room doesn’t require very strong lighting, whereas a preschooler’s does.
Multifunctional furniture and the play area
Designing a small room becomes difficult when we have many things to store. But there are ways to handle this! Effective solutions to this problem can include small yet spacious furniture, a bunk bed with shelves where you can store bedding, or a considerable number of wall-mounted shelves. It’s extremely important to use every space wisely; therefore, if we have the opportunity, it’s worth ordering custom-made furniture.
The crib is the most important piece of furniture in a child’s room. It’s worth placing it somewhere other than by the window, because drafts can occur there, and also not next to radiators or a heater, which dry out the air and can negatively affect the child’s delicate skin.
Play zone
An appropriate play space is another important aspect of arranging a child’s room. This is where our child spends most of the daytime. Even with a small budget, we can go for many cool decorative-and-functional accessories. One solution is a rug with play elements, which can become not only a comfortable seat for kids but also encourage the little one to be physically active. It’s important that such a rug is stain-resistant and easy to clean. To store toys, we can use large boxes in the child’s favorite color.
Study zone
A children’s room, besides the play zone, should also include a study zone. What should it look like? It definitely shouldn’t lack a desk and a comfortable chair. We must remember that the desk is best placed where there’s good access to natural light, i.e., near a window. You can place additional bookshelves near the desk. It’s also worth considering a large floor lamp to further illuminate the room, especially on fall and winter evenings.
Make sure your child’s room not only looks beautiful but is also functional! A properly prepared interior will allow your child to feel at ease and provide a sufficient dose of privacy.
